Racecourse fireworks event raises £10,000 for SHARE

Thousands of people came to watch and thousands of pounds were raised for a good cause as the Chester Racecourse fireworks event was hailed a tremendous success.

There were fears the charitable event wouldn’t happen at all when organisers at Chester Lions reluctantly called it a day due to rising costs after an impressive 54 years.

But Chester Race Company joined forces with Cheshire West and Chester Council and Chris Matheson MP’s office to save the not-for-profit spectacular which took place on Saturday (November 3) and was held in aid of homeless charity SHARE with other businesses such as The Architect also contributing.

SHARE said on Saturday:

“Fifty of our amazing volunteers have given up their Saturday night to shake their SHARE collection buckets at the good people of Chester at Chester Racecourse tonight.

“The proceeds of this amazing event will come to SHARE this year. We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support of the racecourse and our fantastic team of volunteers!”
